AI Policy
For Authors
The Journal of Halal Industry and Services upholds academic integrity and ethical standards in response to the growing use of AI tools in scholarly work. The policy allows limited use of AI for non-substantive tasks such as grammar correction, language refinement, and illustrative examples (with proper labelling and citation). AI tools can be used to assist with data analysis as part of traditional research methods. However, the methodology section must clearly explain the specific tools used, the parameters applied, and the reasons for their selection.
However, AI-generated content is prohibited for substantive manuscript sections, including abstracts, literature reviews, methodologies, results, and conclusions. AI cannot be used to fabricate data, create images, or simulate findings. All intellectual and research contributions must be the authors' original work.
Authors are required to disclose any AI usage in the Acknowledgments section, detailing the tools used and their specific purpose. Ultimate responsibility and accountability for the content rest entirely with the authors.
For Reviewers
Reviewers for the Journal of Halal Industry and Services may use AI tools to enhance the clarity, grammar, and formatting of their review reports, and to verify references or basic factual information. However, they are strictly prohibited from using AI to assess the intellectual content of a manuscript or generate substantive parts of their review. Reviewers must not disclose any manuscript content to AI tools, preserving the confidentiality of the review process. They are also responsible for identifying and reporting any suspected misuse of AI by authors and maintaining ethical standards throughout their review.
For Editors
Editors are permitted to use AI tools for non-substantive tasks such as streamlining editorial workflows, monitoring manuscript progress, and improving the clarity of communications like reviewer invitations or editorial decisions. However, AI must not be used to make key editorial judgments or to assess the intellectual quality of submissions. Additionally, AI-generated content for editorial letters or correspondence must involve human oversight. Editors are responsible for ensuring that authors disclose any AI usage, addressing ethical concerns, preserving the rigor of the peer review process, and providing clear guidance to reviewers on appropriate and ethical AI use in accordance with journal policies.
Ethical Considerations for All Parties
Authors, reviewers, and editors share a collective responsibility to ensure the accuracy and integrity of any content shaped by AI tools, which may occasionally produce misleading or fabricated outputs—commonly referred to as “AI hallucinations.” The use of AI must also adhere to established ethical standards, including the protection of data privacy, securing informed consent, and implementing measures to mitigate potential biases.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Non-adherence to this AI policy may lead to serious consequences.
Commitment to Ethical AI use
Journal of Halal Industry and Services is committed to upholding ethical and responsible use of AI in academic publishing. Adherence to this policy by all parties involved in the publication process helps safeguard the integrity, rigor, and credibility of scholarly research.
